Biography
Harpal Singh was born on April 4, 1958 in Fetehgarh Panjtoor in Ferozepur district of Punjab, India.His parents wrre Sirdar Partap Singh Gill( father) and Mrs. Amar Kaur Gill, (mother) Soon after his birth, his parents moved to Bhodi in Hissar district. He passed first three classes at Government Primary School, Bhodi (Distt. Hissar). Then his parents moved to Rasulpur Saidan, which is near Patiala. He passes his fourth to seventh classes from Arna-Barna Bazar School, Govt. Middele School, Rajpura Colony, Patiala and Government co-education High School in Tripuri Town of Pataila. Again they migrated to Hissar district of Haryana. He passed his middle and Matriculation exams from Government High School in Tohana. He passed his B.A (Hons) exam from Kurukshetra University.
He joined Government college in Ludhania in 1978 and passed his masters in English from Punjab University in 1980. During his university days, he started preaching (paath) and doing katha part time in Gurdwaras of Ludhania.He taught English and grammar at Government College in Tohana and at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) under the chairmanship of Dr. Hazara Singh of PAU.
He joined Ludhania's Bharat Nagar Exchange in 1980. In August of 1982, he then joined Punjab National Bank. After, he got married to an interior designer,Baljinder Kaur on March 6, 1983.This was Baljinder's second marriage. He was not blessed with any kids. However he (Harpal Singh) brought three adopted kids of his relatives, to Canada. After the younger girl, Simran Kaur Gill, reaches 18 years on Nov. 14, 2010, Harpal Singh left them all, because they are well settled in their life.The responsibility of social father, that is Bhai Harpal Singh, is over, because their biological fathers have come to Canada and America.. He is fully dedicated to Guru-Panth Now.
He got his three year religious study from Baba Ajaib Singh of Boparai Kalan, and two year diploma in Sikh studies from Sikh Missionary College in Ludhania. He read almost all the books on Sikh religion and history. As a historian, the almighty Satguru has enabled Harpal Singh to search Sikh history practicallly.
In 1995, he was sponsored by Akali Singh Sikh Society in Vancouver, Canada. In the same year, he was hired by Khalsa Diwan Society to be made incharge of attending multicultural groups and sewa of a granthi. His prayer done in Nankana Sahib to the Almighty Guru proved fruitful in Vancover when the great Guru appointed five Ustads(teachers) for him. Ustad Mohinder Singh Mallah (Munshi-Fazal in Persion himself) was asked by others that Harpal Singh must be helped learn Persion language. He and Iranian Association, Vancouver helped him learning Persion. In June of 1998, he moved to Toronto and was made head granthi of Rexdale Singh Sabha Gurdwara. From April 1999, he worked with UPS, Grand and Toy. He resigned from UPS, Grand and Toy to switch on to Katha and Research full time. As a kathakar and historian, he travelled to Pakistan, Bahamas, New Zealand, Australia, many parts of North America ,England,Italy and Greece, Egypt, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Norway, Sweeden and Denmark.
